WHAT IS TITLE I?
Title I, Part A (Title I) of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESEA) provides financial assistance to local educational agencies (LEAs) and schools with high numbers or high percentages of children from low-income families to help ensure that all children meet challenging state academic standards. The Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) requires educators to show results for their efforts as well as compliance with program rules. The Title I programs at individual schools are developed through the efforts of parents, families, teachers, administrators, and Title I staff. A needs assessment is conducted, which determines what changes are necessary for all students to meet educational standards. Thus allowing teachers, staff, parents and families to plan how to best meet the needs shown in the needs assessment. Title I is dedicated to improving the educational opportunities for all students by helping them: succeed in the classroom; attain grade-level proficiency; and, improve academic achievement.
