On Monday, April 17, 2023, Luray High School students in the “Pen Pal” club, sponsored by Mrs. Brandi Alger, and their Springfield Elementary “pals”, were able to meet for the first time in person. The 4th grade students and LHS students wrote to each other throughout the school year, and were finally able to come visit. Together, they constructed and painted bird houses, enjoyed a snack, and got to know each other a little better in person. The 4th graders were given the option of taking their birdhouses with them or leaving them at LHS to be displayed in the library and to look for them when they become 9th graders.. This activity promoted social/emotional, writing, and communication skills.
