Ms. Getz’s Government classes at Luray High School took a wonderful tour of local government offices and officeholders starting at Luray town offices with the Council's youngest member at the age of 23, LHS graduate Alex White, who shared his story of going to Harvard University and coming back to make a positive impact on his beloved community.
Next, Officer Roy and Captain Wagoner gave the students a tour of the police station, which included a demonstration of how a taser works. From there students ate an early lunch provided by Valley Cork, then headed to the Page County Office Building to be greeted and led by County Administrator Amity Moler, who introduced the students to Rebecca Armstrong, Communications and Marketing Coordinator with the Economic Development & Tourism Department, Matt Cronin, Director of Emergency Services, and Josh Hahn, Director of Planning and Community Development. Students also met Commissioner of Revenue, Becky Smith, who explained her responsibilities and welcomed students to reach out to her if they ever need her help.
Lastly, students walked over to the Page County Courthouse to meet Deputy Beahm for a tour and introduction to Commonwealth Attorney Bryan Cave, Assistant Commonwealth Attorneys Armanda Clymer, and Andrew Harding . The field trip concluded with a tour of the Page County jail and meeting Sheriff Chad Cubbage. This field trip was not only an enjoyable experience, but also served to educate these seniors on the inner workings of local town and county government.
