Clinicals are approaching and the nurse aide students participated in a geriatric simulation. Students in the class put on items that would make doing everyday tasks more difficult. Arthritis, weight gain, limited range of motion, and visual impairments were just some of the simulated scenarios, and the students had to complete activities of daily living as their residents would. This activity is intended to encourage the student to empathize more with the residents when caring for them in the clinical setting.
This simulation is just one that is implemented in preparation of the students for future jobs in the nursing field.
