Mr. Tickerhoof’s Ecology students at PCHS recently completed a lab that assesses the health of forests. This lab was completed over the course of 3 days and served as the final assessment for the Forestry Unit. The students worked in groups to divide the work and complete the lab. All groups from Mr. T’s two Ecology classes then analyzed and pooled their findings to give the final determination that our forests are in fair health. Some things that led to this conclusion were:
Moderate level of regeneration (seedlings growing)
Presence of different organisms
Sightings of the invasive Spotted Lanternfly. Lanternflies that were spotted were handled appropriately.
This lab has become an annual occurrence for Mr. T’s students, and is enjoyed by all because of the opportunity to be outside instead of confined to a classroom.
