Page County Public Schools is proud to begin a new spotlight series called "Celebrating Our Homegrown Educators." We will begin this series with our NEW teachers within the division and then continue the series with all others who wish to participate. We hope you enjoy seeing those who have made the decision to return to Page County to give back to our community.
Dear PCPS Faculty, Staff and Families,
Late this afternoon, information was provided to PCPS from local law enforcement regarding a social media post showing a weapon and a threat listing the abbreviations for several locations. Two of those abbreviations were written as “Lhs” and “Lms”.
This post is in reference to school divisions in Maryland and does not have anything to do with Page County Public Schools, Luray High or Luray Middle schools.
We are sharing this information with you to let you know that we are aware of this post as is law enforcement and to assure you that this threat is not directed to PCPS, LHS, or LMS.
Thank you once again to our law enforcement partners for their responsiveness and continued support.
Parents and Guardians, please continue to have conversations with your children about making threats of any kind and the importance of reporting information to the school or law enforcement.
Thank you

In conjunction with law enforcement, Luray High School administration is investigating information that was shared with them regarding a possible threat to the school. This threat is being deemed as not credible and no students or staff are in danger.
We are notifying everyone to minimize rumors and reassure everyone that we are aware of the situation, it continues to be investigated and law enforcement is involved. To provide everyone with additional reassurance, there will be an additional police presence at the school today.
Students who make threats, even if they are deemed not credible, will be held accountable in accordance with the PCPS Student Handbook and Code of Conduct and law enforcement will pursue any applicable charges based on the facts of the situation.
We want to assure you that we continue to take these reports very seriously with the safety of our students and staff continuing to be a top priority. Please know that we are committed to maintaining an environment where students and staff feel secure, and we continue to encourage all staff, students and families to report anything that may be concerning. Thank you to those who stepped up to bring this matter to the attention of adults today.
Thank you for your continued support of LHS and PCPS.
Attention parents/guardians of children with disabilities, who reside in Page County:
Update as of 4:30pm
LHS staff will remain on site until 5:00pm for any student who needs to return to the school to retrieve any personal belongings. All evening activities are canceled at LHS as staff work to resolve the issue.
Thank you.
3:50pm
LHS has been cleared by Emergency Services - there is no fire at LHS; instead there is a malfunction in the system. Staff are working to escort any remaining students back to their classroom to retrieve belongings.
Please stand by for additional information regarding any other student access to the building to retrieve personal items and for a status on after-school and evening events.
Thank you.
Dear Luray High School Community,
At approximately 3:00 PM on Monday September 16th, 2024 the fire alarm system was activated at Luray High School. This prompted an evacuation of the building which required that students and staff leave their belongings in the school building. In cooperation with local emergency services personnel we have dismissed students on school buses, to parents, and in their personal vehicles.
Once the school building has been cleared by emergency personnel and we are able to reenter, we will notify parents and students of a time when they can return to the building to retrieve their personal belongings. We will continue to provide updates as they become available.
Thank you for your continued cooperation and support.

Family and Consumer Science classes at Luray High School participated the "The Wall Challenge." Students were challenged to partner with another classmate and use communication skills to make identical pudding cups with a "wall" between them. The rules stated that students had to use at least 4 toppings, have three layers, and use only verbal communication and active listening. No peaking over the "wall" was allowed.
Luray High School would like to wish the man, the myth, the legend, Mr. Don Ehlers, a very Happy 60th Birthday tomorrow!! You're the best! Enjoy your special day!
9th Graders in Mrs. Caton's and Mrs. Lucas' Health classes learn the basics of CPR with the help of Deputy Beahm. While this instruction will not certify them in CPR, it does give them the tools to begin CPR and the knowledge of what to do in case of an emergency. This first aid and CPR course is a Virginia High School requirement for all students before they graduate. We are so fortunate that Deputy Beahm loves to jump in and assist anytime he's needed.
Route 211 may remain closed for up to two hours. Alternate routes are recommended at this time. Families of Governor's School students are being contacted directly by the LHS or PCHS.
The community issue involving law enforcement on Route 211 near New Market Mountain has been resolved. Luray High School is moving back to normal operations.
