Wednesday, January 22, 2020 a very special little boy, Brayden Rodriguez, a student at Stanley Elementary School, received a send-off fit for a king.
There was no emergency as first responders, parents, teachers, and students lined the streets around the school. Rather they were there to offer support for one of their own. Brayden was on his way to Bethesda, MD. to receive groundbreaking treatment at NIH for the disease, SCID (Severe Combined Immunodeficiency). This treatment will last several weeks and he must remain in isolation by himself for at least two months.
The least his community could do was give him a send off he's not likely to forget anytime soon. As the family prepared to leave the county to head north, they were escorted by police, fire, and rescue units around his school, where every student and staff member lined the sidewalks to wish him well and show support of their classmates.
To Brayden and his family, we hope you know that you will be in our thoughts and prayers over the next few months. To Brayden, we say Stay Strong, your Stanley family will be waiting for your return.
