Auto Tech I students are learning onboard diagnostics, which includes scanning for codes, but they go just a step further. They are learning how to test each component to see the data that it gives to the computer, not just what the computer sees coming from the input sensor. This gives them a clear picture of whether the wiring from the sensor is faulty or whether it’s a sensor itself.
