Students with layers of the earth projects

Last Friday, October 22, 2021, students in Mrs. Bank's 5th grade science class presented their projects on the Layers of the Earth and Creative Short Stories of an imaginary voyage they embarked upon.

Students were to create three dimensional models that depicted the four main layers of Earth, as well as the additional layers. Models had to be labeled using some sort of creative strategy.

For the layers the students had to share the distance across, tell whether or not the layer was a solid or liquid, and share the temperature of that layer of the Earth.

After the models were completed the students had to write a short, creative story, acting as though they were explorers who were alive during Pangea's time. They were to tell a story about their trip, what they witnessed, what kinds of rocks they saw, and which era they were traveling in (Precambrian, Paleozoic, Mesozoic, or Cenozoic). During their voyage they witnessed catastrophic volcanoes and earthquakes, and they had to describe how this occurred.

This exciting lesson incorporated science, history, and writing, creative thinking, and artistic ability.
