In Honor of African American History Month we are celebrating Famous Black Educators that Helped Change History.
Charlotte Forten Grimke
The first black teacher to work at the Penn School in South Carolina, Ms. Grimke helped educate newly freed slaves after the Civil War. She worked hard to recruit other black educators later in her life, along with the US Treasury Department, helping to ensure diversity among teachers, which could benefit all students. She was a talented poet and she grew up among a family of abolitionists who fought for fair treatment and respect.

While neither the Page County Girls or the Luray Boys Basketball teams finished with wins last night, both are to be commended for outstanding seasons. What an accomplishment to have two teams in our division make it to the State Quarterfinals. Your schools and community are proud of you! Hold your heads high!
In honor of Black History Month, we will be highlighting some innovations of African Americans that changed the way we produce and consume foods. On February 27, 2024 we will offer biscuits at breakfast and will offer French Fries at lunch. Interested in finding out why those foods, see the graphic below.

Shenandoah Elementary School is currently experiencing a smoke-related issue in the annex building next to the school. It has been confirmed by the Town of Shenandoah that the smoke is coming from sewer line testing. Students were evacuated outside when the fire alarms went off, but are being brought back into the gym of the school. Students and staff are safe and the fire department is on site. There is no immediate danger and Shenandoah staff will continue with their normal daily schedule.

Famous Black Educators That Have Changed the World.
Rita Pierson
Ms. Pierson is famously known for her Ted Talks, in which she championed the black, youth male community. She was an elementary, junior high, and special education teacher, as well as a counselor and assistant administrator. She wanted to show all of her students that they all mattered and were supported-especially in school.
